Committed blood donors ensure
Oklahoma Blood Institute helps save lives every day. But OBI depends
on other kinds
of
commitment to giving to ensure we continue to meet the blood banking
demands of the present and prepare for the future. If you can make a
gift to OBI
to help save lives, please contact Gary Lynch at 405-297-5545 or
glynch@obi.org. Gary can
answer your specific questions about ways to contribute and is
eager to hear ideas you would like to share about making a gift.

Types of Gifts
|
| Outright giving is defined as gifts in which the donor retains no interest.
These gifts may be unrestricted or restricted in purpose. Unrestricted
gifts are those given to OBI to be applied at the discretion of the institute
based on current needs. Restricted gifts are applied to specific purposes
as directed by the contributor. These gifts range from memorial donations
to honorariums, and include endowment gifts and equipment purchases. |

account to an account held in the name of OBI.

- Memorial Gift - Honor the memory of a family member
or friend. A letter of acknowledgment will be sent to you for tax purposes
and a remembrance card will be sent to the family within 24 hours of receipt.
|
- Honorarium - Make a gift on behalf of someone special
in your life; birthday, graduation, special accomplishment, new job or
promotion, or other important event.
|
- Bloodmobile - When people need blood, it must be waiting
for them at the hospital when they arrive. Getting enough blood often
means taking the "blood center" to the donor through the use of a bloodmobile.
Oklahoma patients need 600 units of red blood cells per day. A five-bed
bloodmobile working daily will collect 14,000 units of blood per year,
greatly impacting the blood supply. Build on a Bluebird "school bus" chassis
and equipped with a 260 HP diesel engine, these rugged 40-foot vehicles
are built for many years of service. Total cost for a new bloodmobile
is $169,750. Names of individuals and business entities who contribute
$5,000
or more are permanently displayed on the exterior of the vehicle.
|
- Bloodmobile Equipment - Your contribution to fund
equipment for blood collection on a bloodmobile will be greatly appreciated
as well. With your permission, a brass plaque will be placed on machines
you choose to fund. Total cost to fully equip each bloodmobile for
blood donation collection is $13,044.

- Research Endowment - Endowed gifts are
funds or property donated to the institution as a source of income.
The assets are set aside for the institution to use all or part of
the earnings toward projects. Endowments can insure the long-term future
of the institution, its mission and work. They can be used to fund
new initiatives such as additional programs, quality initiatives and
research breakthroughs. Obi completed a campaign in May 2005 to match
a $500,000 gift for the purpose of establishing a $1,000,000 blood
research endowment. The Ronald O. Gilcher Research Fund will perpetuate
Oklahoma Blood Institute's mission of providing the safest blood possible
for Oklahomans. Your gift to this fund is insurance that it will grow
in perpetuity benefiting future generations of Oklahomans.
