Lillie Moody is a single mother of two and part time student who still finds time to volunteer at the Southern Oklahoma Blood Institute. She makes bags with the other bag ladies, calls donors for blood drives, prepares promotional packets for the recruitment department, answers telephones and does general office work all while going to school two days a week. Her son River is 2 years old and her daughter Freedom is 10 months old. They keep this hard working mom very busy at home. Everyone at SOBI considers Lillie a part of the family. We are so happy to have Lillie as a volunteer.

As pictured from left to right Billie McCarson, Emmy Blancaflor and Corrine Priest. The “Bag Ladies” volunteer every Tuesday morning at the Ardmore center. They make enough bags to cover all of Ardmore’s blood drives.

Every Tuesday the Ardmore center is invaded by “Bag Ladies”. This small but hard working group of women arrive every Tuesday morning to label blood bags for the weeks upcoming blood drives. Billie McCarson is a retired school teacher and has been an OBI volunteer since 2002. Corrine Priest has been a volunteer with OBI for a little over a year now. Corrine stays busy and loves to make treats for the staff and volunteers. Everyone thinks she’s is a very good cook. And Emmy Blancaflor is our newest bag lady. She has been a volunteer for OBI since September of this year. Emmy enjoys volunteering with several other groups as well. Lisa Ensminger (not pictured) is a full time Wal-Mart employee who comes in on her day off and donates platelets. After she is finished donating she makes bags. Lisa has been a volunteer for almost two years. She is a part of the Volunteering Pays program through Wal-Mart. Through this program Wal-Mart gives an organization $250 if their employee volunteers for that organization for 25 hours during a six month period. So far Wal-Mart has donated $500 to SOBI because Lisa is so generous with her time. Even though Tuesday’s have become the bag making day of the week, each of our volunteers have worked extra days when needed. Ardmore is truly blessed with such a great group of “Bag Ladies”.

Betty Brack packs OU and OSU T-shirts for a blood drive. Betty is a Texas Longhorns fan so bedlam time is not exactly her favorite time of year. Each year during our Bedlam promotion Betty says she is going to quit but thankfully she never has.

Betty Brack is known around the Ardmore Center as the T-shirt Lady. She has been a volunteer with OBI for 7 years. Betty faithfully comes in every Tuesday and Thursday to pack t-shirts for the blood drives and unpack the returns. When Betty is packing t-shirts everyone knows to stay out of the t-shirt room. There is even a caution sign on the door of the t-shirt room that reads “Caution Betty at Work”. Betty keeps all the t-shirts organized and lets us know when we are getting low or when t-shirts need to be moved to the mobile room.
